“It’s not worth it unless you’re having a good time.” – Kelly Clarkson
The Internet ruins everything. Okay, not everything, but some things. Sure, it was intended to bring people together and create a global community, which it has managed to do. The abundance of and demand for content, however, makes being surprised by anything an obstacle, especially by live concerts. As part of this wellness challenge, I have tried to avoid watching any videos from Kelly Clarkson’s Meaning of Life tour, with one primary exception: “a minute and a glass of wine”.
Last night’s episode was perfection. “The Queen of Covers” belted out a stirring rendition of Nobody’s Crying by Patty Griffin. Here is a sampling of lyrics from the track:
May you dream you are dreaming, in a warm soft bed
And may the voices inside you that fill you with dread
Make the sound of thousands of angels instead
Tonight where you might be laying your head
But darling, I wish you well
On your way to the wishing well
Swinging off of those gates of hell
But I can tell how hard you’re trying
The vulnerable sincerity of each note pierced my heart. Her performance resonated through my soul, and chills ran up and down my spine. Admittedly, I cried. It wasn’t an ugly cry, rather a soft, reflective stream of tears across my cheeks. The kind of tears you don’t want to wipe away. The kind of tears you let gently flow from your chin. The kind of tears you want to feel against your skin, so you know you are alive.
I will attach the full performance once it has posted for your consideration. As I have stated on numerous occasions, I do not own the rights. I do not make any money from this blog. Kelly, please do not sue me, or take me to court. I love you so much!
