16 Then Cain went out from the presence of the Lord and dwelt in the land of Nod on the east of Eden. 17 And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. And he built a city, and called the name of the city after the name of his son—Enoch. 18 To Enoch was born Irad; and Irad begot Mehujael, and Mehujael begot Methushael, and Methushael begot Lamech.
And here lies the age-old question, where did Cain find a wife? The Bible isn’t a complete history books, God inspires the story that help tell his story of what he need to do to be good persons, and what we should avoid to become wicked. The Bible says that Adam and Eve had “other sons and daughters”, not mentioned specifically in the Bible. There surely were incestual relationships, but because everyone was pure back then, those relationships didn’t necessarily result in birth defects. It wasn’t until we began poisoning out bodies with drugs, prescription or illicit, alcohol, refined foods, etc. that has let to defects in the generation of human life. So over hundreds of years, you certainly had to end up married to a cousin or perhaps even a sibling.
19 Then Lamech took for himself two wives: the name of one was Adah, and the name of the second was Zillah. 20 And Adah bore Jabal. He was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock. 21 His brother’s name was Jubal. He was the father of all those who play the harp and flute. 22 And as for Zillah, she also bore Tubal-Cain, an instructor of every craftsman in bronze and iron. And the sister of Tubal-Cain was Naamah.
God never intended for man to be polygamists, he created one woman for one man. But unfortunately, man decided otherwise, and soon, multiple wives became a common things.
23 Then Lamech said to his wives:
“Adah and Zillah, hear my voice;
Wives of Lamech, listen to my speech!
For I have [k]killed a man for wounding me,
Even a young man [l]for hurting me.
24 If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold,
Then Lamech seventy-sevenfold.”
25 And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and named him Seth, “For God has appointed another seed for me instead of Abel, whom Cain killed.” 26 And as for Seth, to him also a son was born; and he named him Enosh. Then men began to call on the name of the Lord.
After Eve ate the forbidden fruit, man became sinful very quickly. And why nothing had been written yet, God had to have verbally passed down some laws, otherwise, Cain wouldn’t have known it was wrong to murder his brother. Then again, are people born with a conscious about right and wrong? And are some not?
Sin ranging from murder to thievery to deceit, to adultery soon infected men of all levels of society.
Once man sinned and separated themselves from God, it didn’t take long before there were very few faithful and righteious people left in existence. Satan must have been very pleased with himself at his accomplishments. God created a perfect Heaven on Earth, with perfect people, and all Satan had to do was plant doubt in their minds, the same doubt he planted in one third of the angels who fell from grace as well.
