The Meaning Of Life

Bible Study with Big John Tracy

Just a Reminder

If you have just came across this blog and you haven’t read the “About” page, just a reminder as to why this is here.

I’m not a pastor, nor is this a ministry. This is my own personal Bible study, and I’ve made it an open invitation to anyone that would like to follow along.

After a long absence, I turned back to God after my wife began to suffer from a terminal illness. It was completely selfish, but I thought if I turned back to God, He might spare her life. And while she ultimately passed, I can rest assured that God did, in fact, extend her life so we were able to share another two years together, two years we might not otherwise have had.

As a part of my return, I started to read the Bible. I read it cover to cover, Genesis to Revelation. But I got to the last word in the Bible, and didn’t know anything. My goal was to read the Bible, and that is what I did. I didn’t read it to understand or comprehend it, I just read it for the sake of reading. It was simply a task, reading each word from left to right, top to bottom. I didn’t even ponder what I was reading, I was just fulfilled the mechanics of reading words.

The second time I started, I made it through to the Books of the Chronicles where I really started to get confused. Most of what I had read was a repeat from the Books of the Kings. So after a little research, I discovered the Bible was not written in chronological order. So I stopped, went back to Genesis, and read the Bible, cover to cover, chronologically. And now it was more interesting, more of a joy to read.

The third time is read the Bible, I used a Bible Study app called eSword. It allowed me to read different versions of the Bible, compart different versions, reference commentary and maps, and even had a place where I could take notes, much as I am doing here.

The year after that, I participated in a year-long study of the Book of Revelation, verse by verse. And last year, I participated in a year long study of the Bible called “Bible Recap”.

I don’t want to quit studying. The less I study and read, the further I find myself getting from God. But I must develop another way to study so it stays interesting, and this is what I came up with. Rather than use the eSword again, I decided I would read the Bible and make commentary on what I’ve read and document it in this form.

So this blog is entirely for me, but you are most welcome to join in, study with me, ask God for guidance, develop your own understanding. Do not trust wholely in what I say, I may very well be wrong.

Whether you join me or not, I urge you to study the Bible in some form or another. Our Lord and Savior will be coming soon, and we must be ready!

God bless you all!
