Volume 1-45, Genesis 17

This is the chapter in which God established what is called the “Abrahamic Covenant”. And God changed Abram’s name to Abraham, and instructed him that all males should be circumcised in the “flesh of their foreskin”. Many will argue that this covenant was no longer valid after Jesus created his covenant with the people, but I don’t know if that is accurate or not. I have a hard time determining the difference between the commands of God and ceremonial laws. What I do believe, is that the command to circumcise was based more on health than it was obedience.

And what is even more interesting, and to me, it is one of the issues that makes me believe our God is a real God, is the fact that he commanded Abraham to circumcise the males when they were 8 days old. Were you aware, there is a blood clotting agent you are born with that is at it’s highest when you are 8 days old, then starts to decline as you age? What is the coincidence of this fact compared to God’s command? Is it possible that God knew this, and that is why he picked the 8 day circumcision?

And for those that say the Bible is just a compilation of fairy tales written by men of old, how would they know about this blood clotting agent? Do you think they had laboratory testing of blood 4,000 years ago?

Moving on, once again, God promises Abraham many descendants who will become rulers and kings, and we know from further reading of the Bible that this was absolutely true, a prophesy from God himself.

God also changed Sarai’s name to Sarah, and continued to promise that she would bear children. In fact, He told Abraham that the very next year, Sarah would bear a baby boy, and even called him Isaac.

We will find throughout the Bible where God does this, He names the baby before it is born, and in the Virgin Mary’s case, He named the baby before she conceived, “You will conceive a baby and you will call Him Jesus.” (paraphrasing of course). Again, how would writers 4,000 years ago be able to predict these things that would occur in the future? They didn’t predict them, they simply documented what God told them

Amen.
