This is one of the more wonderful stories of the Bible. It does not explicitly say, but Abraham is resting in the shade when three men appeared, and immediately bows to the ground and calls one of them “Lord”. My interpretation is that it was Jesus, pre-incarnate, and two angels.

And Abraham invites them to rest, wash their feed, and feast. He and Sarah prepared a calf, bread, butter, and milk, then sat and watched them as they ate.

And once again, Abraham was promised a son, even though Sarah was barren. And Sarah was about 90 years old and Abraham close to 100. But remember the long lives they lead back in those days, so while the age sounds old, they were still pretty young.

Would you recognize Jesus if He came to your door? Would you invite Him in and feed Him?

Then it explains their presence. They are on their way to Sodom to destroy it because it had became very immoral. But knowing Lot was living in Sodom, Abraham interjected, and pleaded with the Lord not to take any righteous people.

It is important to keep in mind, God does not hate anyone. We are His children and He loves us very much. But He hates sin, and anytime you read about “God’s Wrath” in the Bible, it is always about His hate for sin, not His hate for people.

Sin isn’t about disobeying the Lord. It’s not about whether we are “obedient’ or “subservient” to Him. Satan hates us because of our love for God, and he wants to destroy us, he wants to eliminate all of God’s followers. So Satan tempts us with sin, which takes us further and further away from our Creator. And that is what God is truly angry about. He has given us freedom of choice to make the right or wrong decisions in life. He doesn’t intrude, He doesn’t force us to read the Bible or Worship Him, but Satan does. Satan and his fallen angels work diligent each and every day to draw us further from God.

But resisting the temptation of Satan is extremely difficult. Satan is more powerful than us. And that is why God is angry, angry with Satan for not giving us the same freedom of choice that God gives us.

Praise God, our Creator, and our Lord and Savior! Amen!
