In the last chapter, Abraham hosted Jesus and two angels who were on their way to investigate Sodom which had became a very sinful place. And remember how Abraham intercede, and made Jesus not to destroy the city if there were 10 righteous people there. And Sodam is where Lot was now living.

In this chapter, the two angels, now in human form, came to Sodom, and Lot just happened to be at the gate. When he saw them, he bowed down, and invited them to stay at his residence. The denied his offer, saying they would stay in the town square, but Lot insisted, so they finally accepted his offer, and Lot threw them a big feat.

Then some men from the town came to Lot’s residence, and demanded that he send the two angels outside to them. The word “sodomy”, which is an immoral sexual act, came the name name of the town Sodom, And not only were the men of Sodom having sexual relations with the women, they were also having sexual relations with each other.

5And they called to Lot and said to him, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may know them carnally.

Lot refused to send the angels out, and instead offered his daughters to them men instead. Now how immoral does homosexuality have to be if you offer up your own daughters for sex rather that two men? Even though they were angels, Lot would have offered his daughters up to the men. And Lot even told the townsmen, this is why the men were here, because of the immorality that was going on.

This is purely my opinion, and my opinion only. In thinking about the town prostitute that the Pharisees brought to Jesus to see if He would stone her to death, and He did not. Remember what He said, “Go and sin no more.” I do not necessarily think it is a sin to be a homosexual, but I do think it is a sin to practice homosexuality, and if you abstain from that practice, you will be forgiven, just like the prostitute Mary Magdelene.

The townsmen refused the daughters and insisted on the men, not knowing the men were angels and had the blessing of God. And the angels pulled Lot back into the house and struck the men with blindness.

The next morning, the angels urged Lot to take his wife and two daughters and flee Sodom, telling them to not look back. And they fled the city, but Lots wife looked back and turned into a pillar of salt. And I have no idea why. I don’t know if there was something symbolic about being turned into salt or what. I know that if she was going to suffer a punishment for failing to follow God’s command, there was a number of ways he would have allowed it. And again, I do not believe God kills anyone, I simply think he removes his “head of protection”, as it was called in the Book of Job, and allows Satan to do what he wishes. Satan has the capability of killing you, that is why God told Satan he could do anything he wanted to Lot, except take his life. So read the chapter for yourself, and interpret it as you wish. But for this study, I’m studying the Bible at face value, without any interpretations by man that could very well be wrong.

And Lot and his daughters escaped Sodom, an fire reigned down from Heaven and destroyed the town and all of it’s occupants. And researchers have surveyed the are where Sodom was likely located, and have found extremely high concentrations of sulfer in the ground, sulfer that could only be present from a major fire.

Now Lot’s daughter were concerned that because their father had no sons his legacy would die, so they made a plan to carry on the family name. They gave their father fermented wine until he was drunk, then they had intercourse with him, and they both became pregnant and bore him children.

Yes, they committed an act that today, is considered incest. But back then, it was acceptable. Remember, after the flood there were only 8 people alive, and they were all related to each other. How do you reproduce without interbreeding within your own family. And back then people were still so very pure. There was little disease, people’s bodies were more perfect, and there was a lesser chance of bearing a child with birth defects like it is today.

Today, there are so many diseases, so many external influences like drug and alcohol abuse, tobacco used, and things like that, the prevent us from having pure children. So today, incest is not acceptable.

The lesson I get from today is that God looks upon homosexuality is immoral. We need to follow God’s command, no matter our urges or temptations. We must remain strong to resist the temptations of Satan.

And please do not misconstrue my interpretation of this message. Later, Jesus will make a comment that there is no one sin greater than another, and since I am also born into sin, my sins are just as great as that of homosexuality. Se we both have sins that need to be taken care off and that we need to repent from.

Amen!
