“The Lord knows the heart.” And I can’t hide it from Him, He knows that I know that I think Paul is boring. It is a must read, without a doubt, but I just don’t enjoy the letters of Paul as much as I love the other Bible stories. May favorites are from the early Old Testament from creation through all of the Kings, then of course The Gospels, and I can’t leave out The Revelation of Jesus Christ. So I truly love reading about the patriarchs; it is truly a historical account of World History as well as having lessons of life witihin each chapter.

And now that I’ve said that, in this chapter, we bring an end to the live of Abraham. Abraham was not without sin, but he was a true man of God, chosen by God! And he set the stage for the rest of everyone’s life.

After the death of Sarah, Abraham married again and had other sons. The Bible always related the genealogy of the important figure in the Bible.

Furthermore, the Bible lists the descendants of Ishmael, with a surprising parallel to Jacob, as Ishmael had 12 princes, and in the words of God, he would make nations out of Ishmael as well. And he did…we see the followers of Ishmael in todays society.

I’m not an expert on the Muslim faith. I’ve never read the Quran. But I watched a video once that told the difference between Muslims and Christians. From what I understand, correct me if I’m wrong, that Muslims believe in God and that Abraham was also their patriarch. They simply believe that since Ishmael was the first born, the blessed come down through his lineage. And while our Messiah is Jesus Christ, theirs was Muhammad. But Ishmael, we know, was born out of flesh while Isaac was the true gift from God, even being named by God before he was in the womb.

So now we begins the stories of Isaac, who took his wife Rebekah. And they had twins name Jacob and Esau. And once again, Esau presented himself first in the form of an arm, but he withdrew his arm and Jacob was born.

So technically Esau was first, then Jacob. But that wasn’t God’s Will, and God’s Will will be done. Remember that…His Will will always be done.

There is a popular saying today, “He sold his soul to the devil”. That is because we literally, without being cognizant of it, sell our soul to the Devil every time we sin. Every time we indulge in something we shouldn’t, every unkind or angry word we say, every immoral thought we have, every time we hate our brothers, every time we have a love for money or possessions over God, we sell our soul to the devil.

Back then, your birthright was something not only to be proud of, it was a possession. It was an asset. It was valuable. And it was something that couldn’t be taken away. Just like a blessing; if you were blessed by your father, those blessings were carried out through the generations. Remember when Noah became angry and cursed Canaan?

So Esau had the birthright. He was the next descendent in the lineage of Abraham and Isaac, and even Isaac intended for it to be. But God didn’t. And for whatever reason I can’t imagine, other than the Will of God, Esau really didn’t care about his birthright, because he ended up giving it away freely to Jacob in exchange for a bowl of soup.

You just have to read this chapter of Genesis to find out.

Father in Heaven…thank you for your blessings. Without a doubt, Your Will will be done. You are the most wise, the most knowledgeable, You love us and want the best for us. Your Will is what is the best for us in the end. Please help us to stop fighting You. Help us to relax, enjoy our lives, and rest assured that if we allow Your Will to lead our lives, and to stop selling our soul to the Devil, we will surely have unimaginable joy in Heaven with you. Amen.
