If you have stumbled across this, just a reminder that the purpose of this blog is for my personal study of the Bible. As a former firefighter, EMT, 911 Director, and trainer, I know that different people learn in different ways; some by reading, some by listening, some by watching, etc. I’ve read the Bible, I’ve participated in different Bible Studies, and to be honest, I have to find a different way. I can’t quit reading the Bible, if I do, I’ll drift away from my God. Yet, I can’t just read it again, it’s like watching a movie over and over and over, and eventually it’s no longer exciting. So, this is just another way for me to read and study the Bible in a different manner than I’ve done before. And if this time, I take notes on what I’ve read, write narratives about what I’ve read, perhaps there will be new insights, in fact, I can guarantee you because there are already so many things I missed the first times I’ve read this Book.
Follow with me if you choose, or find your own way to study, I simply urge you to study and to always pray for understanding.
There is a lot of geneology in the Bible. And we often wonder why God is telling us these things as at face value, they don’t mean too much. But if you don’t understand it now, trust me, it can be used for research.
For example, this chapter details the descendants of Esau. If you remember, Esau married Canaanite women, much just to spite his father. And you might ask, “why should I care about the descendants of Esau?”
For example, we find in this chapter that Esau had a son named Eliphaz, and that Eliphaz had a son named Amalek. Later in the Bible, you will read and study about the Amalekites, the descendants of Amalek. And when you read about them, you will know that they are in the lineage of Esau.
And you can tell from their actions and ways of life, why they were like they were.
And the names of some of the countries came from persons, as we’ve covered, the word Edom, which was a country, means red and was named such after Esau who was red haired.
Every word God has directed to be written is there for a reason.
I know this is a short study, but I didn’t want to take up another chapter because we are now getting ready to get into the life of Joseph, and not only is it interesting and full of prophesy, it is critically important, so we really need to focus on his life.
