In the last chapter we read how the Ishmaelites, descendants of Ishmael, had sold Joseph to Potiphar, a Captain in Pharoah’s army. And the Bible says that the Lord “was with Joseph”, and that Potiphar could see that “the Lord was with him”, yet, Potiphar didn’t try to turn to the Lord to be faithful like Joseph. I supposed it is the same today; there are non-believers, those who scoff at God, or even those that might believe in God, but choose not to follow him because following the Commandments puts a cramp on their lifestyle. But if I saw that the Lord was with someone, for example Joseph, I would try to be more like him. The Bible says that Joseph prospered in all that he did, so Potiphar put Joseph in charge of everything that was in his house.
The Bible says that Joseph was very handsome, and Potiphar’s wife tried to seduce him. But Joseph was loyal to his master, and resisted her advances. In fact, he had to put away from her to escape and when he did, she ripped his coat off. Embarrassed that she had been rejected, she started screaming that Joseph had attempted to rape her, so Joseph ended up being put into prison.
Joseph had many troubles. His brothers hated him, he even got to the point where his father Israel became angry with him over the dreams Joseph was telling about, his brothers schemed to kill him, and likely would have if Reuben hadn’t intervened, so they threw him into a pit, then he was sold to Ishmaelites, then we was falsely accused of a crimes, and thrown into prison.
Through all of this, did Joseph turn away from God? Did Joseph once say, “Where is God?” “Why is God allowing this to happen to me?” “Why is God doing this to me?” That is some of what we hear today when trouble arises.
No matter what life throws at you, remain faithful to God. He loves you, and He does not cause you any problems. It is Satan that causes you problems, trying to make you doubt God, just as he did with Eve in the Garden of Eden.
Never forget, Satan is the same serpent he was 6,000 years ago.
