In addition to everything Joseph has been through, he is now in prison on false charges of attempted rape. But because the Lord is with Joseph and, shall we say, “good behavior”, Joseph has found favor with the head guard, so the guard has given Joseph special privileges, a “trustee” if you will.
The Bible doesn’t give a reason, but The King of Egypt’s baker and butler had both been thrown in prison, and both had experienced dreams that were haunting them. Because the Lord was with Joseph, Joseph could pray to God, and God would divulge to Joseph the meaning of those dreams.
The butler told Joseph of his dream, a vine with three branches that bore good grapes, and the butler took the grapes, pressed them into wine, and filled Pharoah’s cup. Joseph told him that the three branches represented three day, and that within three days, Pharoah would restore the butler to his position and once again, he will be serving Pharoah. And Joseph asked the butler to remember him, and mention him to Pharoah in hopes that he could be released.
Then the baker told Joseph of his dream, of three baskets of baked good on his head, and the birds all ate the bread. Joseph interpreted the dream, telling the baker that the three baskets were three days, and that within three days, Pharoah would behead the baker and hang him from a tree where the birds would et his flesh.
By the end of three days, the butler was restored to his position, and the baker was put to death. But the butler forgot Joseph, and forgot to tell pharoah about Joseph.
As always, read the Bible for yourself, ask God to give you understanding, the open your hearts and minds to His Word. Amen.
