Now it was time for Pharaoh to need a dream interpreter. He had a dream about 7 scrawny cows that ate seven fit and fat cows, and another dream about seven thin and dried-up heads of grain that overtook seven large and juicy ears of corn, and even though he asked everyone in his staff to interpret the dreams, no one could.

By now, it had been two years since the butler had been released from prison, and needed someone to interpret Pharaoh’s dreams, the butler finally remembered Joseph, and told Pharaoh about him.

So Pharaoh sent for Joseph and told him the dream, and Joseph gave credit to God for his ability to interpret dreams. Joseph told Pharaoh that the dreams were connected, and the seven fat cows and fat heads of grain represented seven years of plenty, and the seven scrawny cows and seven thin ears of grain represented seven years of famine, and that when the seven years of famine would come, no one would remember the seven years of plenty.

And Pharaoh saw that the Spirit of God was with Joseph, and he liked Josephs interpretation, so he set Joseph as the head over all of Pharaoh’s house, and when the seven years of plenty came, they stored up extra grain and when the seven years of famine came, people from everywhere came to buy grain from Pharaoh.

Here are some of the things I thought about when I read this. It took two years for the butler to remember Joseph, and Joseph was stuck in prison that entire time. Even though you are facing difficult times that you feel will never end, even though you may feel as though God has forgotten you, He hasn’t. Be patient. God will come in time. God’s Will will be done, according to God’s schedule. Keep the faith, no matter how bad you think life is.

No matter how talented you are, it’s not because of you, it is because of God. How many times have you heard the phrase “God given talent”? And that is exactly what it is, the talents you have come from God, and always praise God for them. Everyone thought Joseph could interpret dreams, but Joseph knew the truth and gave credit to God.

Pharaoh saw that the Spirit of the Lord was with Joseph. Did Pharaoh have some magical powers that he could see this? Did Pharaoh have ESP? Was Joseph wearing a sign, or have a tattoo on his forehead reading “I have the Spirit of God?” Nope, none of those.

Pharaoh knew Joseph had the Spirit of God because it was demonstrated by Joseph. I tend to use the word “Christian”, but a Christian is someone who follows Christ, and although Jesus has been with us from the beginning, no one knew his as “The Christ”, instead, Joseph carried himself demonstrating he had the Spirit. He was faithful to God, and it showed. He didn’t secretly worship God, then act like the rest of the crew in real life. He didn’t stand around on the street corner with the other guys, oogling the pretty women, cursing, drinking, then privately going to worship behind closed doors. My dad used to tell stories from his life, his childhood. He used to tell stories about my grandfather and grandmother. That is how information is passed down from generation to generation. And I have no doubt that Abraham taught his family about God, and Isaac taught his family, and Jacob taught his family. And Joseph was a man of God.

So carry yourself as though everyone knows you’re Godly, or that you are a Christian. And don’t brag about it, certainly spread the word and be a witness to others, but don’t stand on the corner professing your faith, show you’re Godly, show you’re a Christian, show the world by your actions.

And less us strive to be known by others as having the Spirit of the Lord with us. Amen!
