Once again, Joseph sends his brothers back to Canaan, with as much grain as they could carry, and once again, put their money back in there sacks. And this time, he instructed his servants to put his silver cup in Benjamin’s sack. It was a silver cup that Joseph personally used.

Once again, Joseph sends his brothers back to Canaan, with as much grain as they could carry, and once again, put their money back in there sacks. And this time, he instructed his servants to put his silver cup in Benjamin’s sack. It was a silver cup that Joseph personally used.

After sending them away, and waiting a while, Joseph sent his servants to pursue them and to search for the cup. Of course, Joseph’s brothers said they had done no wrong, but after searching, Joseph’s servants found the planted cup, and took Joseph’s brothers back to Egypt.

And still, I try to figure out why Joseph is doing this, and in this chapter, the answer may be here. There is scripture that says, “God has found our inequity”, so it appears as though Joseph’s brothers are starting to realize that their jealousy and hatred towards Joseph was wrong.

Maybe Joseph did this to his brothers to bring them closer to God. And remember, this is God’s Will at work.

The brothers were returned to Joseph and they started pleading with him, especially Judah, who had promised Jacob he would take care of Benjamin. Jacob’s true love, Rachel, had two sons, Joseph and Benjamin, and in Jacob’s mind, Joseph had been eaten by wild animals and now he was at risk of losing Benjamin.

As we will read in the future, because Joseph’s brothers threw him into a pit, and then sold him indirectly to Egypt, that is how the Hebrews eventually ended up as slaves in Egypt for 400 years. And it was all God’s Will, all a lesson in how we should follow God because He loves us so very much.

We call God “Our Father”, because He truly is; He created us, He loves us more than anything else, and He wants to have a relationship with us.

Praise God!
