Volume 2-1, Exodus 1

God called Abraham from Ur to come to the land of the Canaanites, and God would give him that land. Do you remember the name Canaan? Canaan was Noah’s grandson who he cursed, and the land he ended up dwelling in was called “Canaan” and his descendants were called Canaanites. And Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob lived there.

But God is all-knowing. He knew a famine was coming in which Jacob’s family might very well starve to death. So it was really God’s Will that Joseph’s brothers sold him to the Ishmaelites who took him to Egypt, and it was God’s Will that Joseph would eventually be the 2nd in Command below the Pharaoh of Egypt. It was God’s Will that Joseph was able to store up grain so that during the famine, Jacob’s family would have food. And it was God’s Will that Jacobs family be moved to Egypt. Why? We do not know…yet.

There is a new Pharaoh in Egypt, a Pharaoh who doesn’t know Joseph, doesn’t know what he has done. And this Pharaoh is very hard hearted, and he is afraid of the Hebrews because, as God ordered, they are being fruitful and multiplying, so Pharaoh takes them into slavery. Yes, there were slaves 4,000 years ago, Hebrew slaves.

But the Hebrews continued to be fruitful, multiplying so fast that it really concerned Pharaoh, so he commanded that all male Hebrew babies born be thrown into the Nile and killed. But the mid-wives were loyal to God, so when they failed to follow Pharaoh’s order, they made up a story about the Hebrew women giving birth before the mid-wives could arrive, so the Hebrews continue to multiply.

So now, it is God’s Will to get His people out of Egypt, and get them back to the land of Canaan, back to the land He originally promised to Abraham.

It is so important to realize that no matter what troubles we have in life, no matter how bad things get, we can even be taken into slavery, that God is still with us. When you face trouble, pray. Some of these troubles are the result of the actions of Satan, who is trying to make us turn away from God. We hear that all of the time, still to this day. When a deadly tornado strikes a community, Satan causes people to say things like, “Where is you God now? Why didn’t your God save you from this tornado?”

This is a battle between God and Satan, and we should never, never forget that Satan was the first liar, he was the first to turn Adam and Eve against God, and he is still using those same tactics today.

Never turn your back on God. Never turn away from God. God always wins, and He will be triumphant in the end. Be on God’s side and you will be triumphant in the end as well. Amen.
