Isaiah Chapter 6, the Lord calls, and Isaiah answers, volunteering to work for the Lord. ‘Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying: “Whom shall I send? Who will go for Us?” And I said: “Here am I. Send me!”

Moses didn’t do that. When God spoke to Moses telling him he had been chosen to convince Pharaoh that he needed to free the Hebrew slaves, Moses came up with a lot of excuses as to why he couldn’t do it, and it angered the Lord.

Here Moses was saved from slaughter when Pharaoh ordered that newborn Hebrew boys be killed, it was God’s Will that Moses be saved. Why did Pharaoh’s daughter not say, “This is a Hebrew baby. It must be killed!”, but she didn’t. She kept the baby, as her own, and that has the Hand of God written all over it.

So now call is calling on Moses, likely because it was God’s Will all along to save Moses just for this purpose, and now Moses is not willing, like we see Isaiah, eager to help.

And isn’t it ironic that it was a serpent that caused man to sin, and now it is going to be a serpent that helps free the Hebrew slaves, somewhat at least. Now when Moses threw his rod down and it turned into a serpent, the Bible says “he was afraid and fled”, but at least when God told him to pick it up by the tail, he trusted God enough to face his fears and do that.

Are we eager to help God? If God were to call on us, would we be eager to drop everything we are doing and help Him? And unlike Moses has been depicted in movies, he was slow of speech, some even say he had a stutter, and Aaron, his brother, did a lot of the talking when it came to negotiating with Pharaoh.

Father, let us clear our thoughts and our minds so we can be ready to hear Your voice should You call upon us, and to prepare us physically and mentally and spiritually to drop everything we are doing to respond to your Will. – Amen
