Volume 2-14, Exodus 17

We’re still complaining. God is doing everything for the children of Israel, and still they are ungrateful. There is no water for them to drink, but instead of praying to God, they complain, and even suggest they were better off in Egypt.

So God told Moses where a rock was, and told Moses to take his rod and strike the rock and that water would come out of it.

Is this the rock Moses struck? It is a rock in Saudi Arabia. There are over half of a million children of Israel, so it would have to be large, not that God couldn’t supply them with ample water from a small rock; He fed 5000 with just a few fish and a few pieces of bread.

My faith is strong. Many people will say this is just coincidence and that Christians are making something out of nothing, but explain the split in this rock. And it is too perfect as well.

So once again, our loving and merciful God answered Moses’ prayer, and conducted another miracle with Moses’ rod.

As they journeyed further, the Amalekites came to fight against the children of Israel. The Amalekites were descendants of Amalek, a grandson of Esau. And while you might be able to remember all of the genealogies listed in the Bible, I can’t, but it is still in the Bible for reference, so if you search for Amalek, you will find out who these people are.

The only thing you have to remember is the people did not have last names, and just like the “John” of the Bible, there are many people with the same name. There was the Apostle John, and there was John the Baptist. Saul was the first King of Israel, but another Saul persecuted Christians before he was born-again and God changed his name to Paul. So, with some of the smaller roles in the Bible, it can get confusing.

Now Joshua was Moses’ right hand man, the leader of the army. And Moses told him to go into battle, and Moses would go up to a mount overlooking the battle field, and he would hold his rod over his head to ensure that Israel had victory. The rod of Moses was certainly a tool of God.

And when Moses arms became tired so that he could no longer hold them up, the Amalekites were dominant, but when Moses held his staff in the air, Israel dominated the war. So when Moses arms would get tired, Aaron his brother and someone named Hur would hold Moses’ arms in the air until Israel won the battle.

Pay close attention to this. Scripture says, “Because [g]the Lord has sworn: the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.” That means Israel will never see peace, and there will always be division.

Why was God against these people? They were pagans who worshipped other gods. They sacrificed children to other gods. And they would not turn their hearts. So God gave their land to Israel, because it was good land. I’ve had it explained that in that region, there is an impassible desert on one side, mountainous terrain on another, and the Mediterranean Sea on another. The land of Israel is one of very few places to pass from Asia into Africa by land, and many people want it.

Then there was the age old conflict started between Ishmael, who his followers believe had the birthright, and Isaac, the grandfather of the children of Israel. Then you have the differences between Esau, who sold his birthright to Jacob, and who married a Canaanite woman just to spite his father Isaac. So when people pray for peace in the Middle East, that is fine. Prayer never hurts. But personally, I don’t believe there will be peace. Because Abraham and Sarah did not trust the Lord to provide them with children, and used Hagar as a surrogate, I believe there will be war until the end of time.

And don’t forget, Satan is constantly working on the descendants of Ishmael and Esau knowing they are against God’s chosen people.

Father, please bless the people who are reading this. Open their hearts and mind so they can receive your word. Amen.
