one silver platter, the weight of which was one hundred and “thirty shekels, and one silver bowl of seventy shekels, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, both of them full of fine flour mixed with oil as a grain offering; 14one gold pan of ten shekels, full of incense; 15one young bull, one ram, and one male lamb in its first year, as a burnt offering; 16one kid of the goats as a sin offering; 17and for the sacrifice of peace offerings: two oxen, five rams, five male goats, and five male lambs in their first year.”

You’ll read that a lot in this chapter, as it is repeated for each Tribe of Israel.

In this chapter, they are dedicating the Tabernacles through offerings, and each tribe gives an offering. The scripture tells you who made the offering, who they were a son of, which tribe they represented, and what they offered. And they all offered the same offering.

I’m going to assume they wanted everything well documented, no blanket verbiage to avoid conflict later. And I confess, by the time you get to Day 12, you might wonder “why”? Just remember, God has a valid reason for everything. We may not know it at the time, but I’m sure Moses didn’t write this just to fill the scrolls. And someday, we will be able to ask God.

And it may be as simple as a test of our faith and dedication; are we willing to go through these steps of reading the Bible word for word for God, or are we going to just take the easy route; if so, will we take the easy route in life, will be take shortcuts, are we wanting the “Cliff Notes” version of the Bible?

In Chapter 8, God details the arrangement of the lamps and the cleaning and dedication of the Levites. God is very detail oriented, representative of how we should be in life. Our lives should be detail oriented when it comes to sin, paying close attention to each detail. What happens if you’re not detail oriented at your job? You might end up losing it. Surely we should pay more attention to detail when it comes to living the lives the way God intended as we do in our place of employment.

In the 9th chapter of Numbers, clarification of God’s command was necessary. As outlined before, anyone who touched something unclean was considered to be unclean until the evening and were not allowed to enter the Tabernacle or do anything on “Holy” ground.

There were some men who were unclean who had came in contact with a corpse. And obviously, that was inevitable. When someone died, they had to be carried to their burial location. But these men were upset that they were not allowed to participate in the 2nd Passover. And this indicates it had been one year now since the children of Israel had been enslaved.

Moses conferred with God, and God gave his blessing for the men to participate in Passover. This, to me, illustrates the importance of the Passover celebration, that even those who were unclean were allowed to participate. Then again, perhaps God was pleased with the passion the men had, wanting to participate.

The chapter ends with a description of how God indicated when the children should travel. The Tabernacle was filled with a cloud by day, and by fire at night, and whenever the cloud ascended, that was an indicator that the children should pack up and move.
