Volume 4-7,Numbers 14

I know, I’ve said it before, but it’s worth saying again. “If you’ve seen Me, you’ve seen the Father”. When reading the Bible, substitute the word “Jesus” for the word “God”, and you’ll have a better idea of the character of God.

Now, every time something bad happens, think of Satan. In Numbers 14, the children of Israel begin grumbling about the giants, in the land of Canaan, and how they are going to be killed by the sword, and how it would have been better to die in Egypt.

But the children of Israel weren’t bad, they were simply tempted by Satan, who was trying to draw them away from God, to make them turn against God. And they were too weak to withstand the temptation.

Just like Eve, she wasn’t bad, she just fell to the temptation of Satan. You see, Satan is very cunning. He had the ability to lead a third of Heavens angels astray, and these were angels who had seen God face-to-face, could see His Glory and His love. Satan is a very strong force.

God doesn’t create bad people, we turn away from Christ because we are too weak to resist the temptations of Satan. It’s not our fault, we are simply human. We are born into a sinful world.

And anytime you see where “God was angry”, Je wasn’t angry with the people, He was angry with sin. He knows that if we concede to sin, it will result in our separation from God and ultimately our final and eternal death.

And I have a new found cynicism. Millenia have passed since Moses wrote the Pentateuch, and we have no way of knowing how many ways it is been misinterpreted. As an example, the original writing did not contain punctuation, that was added later, and you know how much difference a comma can make.

So when we read “God was angry!”, that conflicts with Jesus who said, “If you’ve see Me…., which is a lot more recent than the first five books of the Bible.

So my philosophy remains, and my trust in Jesus is steadfast. I believe in the Holy Trinity, and when Jesus says He is just like the Father, I believe Him, and I’ve read accounts of the loving, caring, merciful, and forgiving Jesus I read about in the Gospels.

Father, we continue to pray for understanding and wisdom. We know that man is not objective, that man cannot interpret anything without interjecting his thoughts, even I can’t, so it’s hard for me to trust the word of man. I can trust Your Word, the word of God, so we pay that as we study your word, you will send your Spirit upon us to teach us Yourself, to give us true and unbiased understanding. Amen.
