First Commandment – Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Second Commandment – 8‘You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 9you shall not bow[c] down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, [d]visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 10but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and [e]keep My commandments.
Third Commandment – 11‘You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him [f]guiltless who takes His name in vain.
Fourth Commandment –
12‘Observe the Sabbath day, to [g]keep it holy, as the Lord your God commanded you. 13Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 14but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your ox, nor your donkey, nor any of your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates, that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you. 15And remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out from there by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm; therefore the Lord your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.
Yes, the calendar changed from Julian to Gregorian, but the seven day cycle has been consistent throughout all of history.
Yes, in 1582 there were ten days that were eliminated from the calendar, mainly because they had failed to have a leap year and over time, the calendar drifted from the lunar cycle, so ten days were eliminated to get the calendar up to par. But the seven day cycle wasn’t affected, dates were eliminated, not days.
The names of the seven days of the week originated with the Babylonians around 2300 BC, but the seven day cycle was established in the Book of Genesis and hasn’t changed.
Today, God’s Chosen, the children of Israel /, still observe a seventh day Sabbath on Saturday.
Jesus was a Jew, who celebrated the Sabbath. “Sabbath” or “Shabbot”, is a Hebrew word meaning “rest” (and on the seventh day, God rested from all His work.
In addition to the Jews, there are many Christian Churches today that still observe a seventh-day Sabbath. And note, the “Sabbath” is capitalized to indicate it is Holy”. There are many sabbaths (lower case) observed by the Jews, but the Sabbath is a Holy day, the seventh day, a day God set aside for rest.
And many “Sunday” keeping pastors admit that Saturday is the true Sabbath.
And while Charlie Kirk attended church on Sunday, he still kept a Saturday Sabbath.
I just watched a video of a Lutheran preacher who said we do not have to follow the Sabbath because it was a Mosaic Law under the Old Testament, and Christians no longer have to follow the Mosaic Law.
What great news! That means it’s okay to murder! It’s okay to commit adultery! It’s okay to lie and steal! Man, life is going to be great for me now that I found out that I don’t have to follow the Ten Commandments! Of course the world is going to be difficult now that it is lawful to murder and commit adultery. Does that make sense to anyone? At all? But that is what Christians do, they pick and choose the Commandments they want to follow.
What did Jesus say about the Old Testament? Matthew 5:17 “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one [b]jot or one [c]tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. 19Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
Where is the law discussed? Where are the stories of the prophets? In fact, if we are not under the Old Testament, why hasn’t it been eliminated from the Bible? Why doesn’t our Bible start with Matthew 1:1? And why even then, does the Book of Matthew discuss the lineage of Jesus?
I was raised a Seventh-Day Adventist, but I no longer follow that religion. I do however, follow a seventh-day Sabbath because that is what the Bible teaches!
And that is why I’m so leery of pastors that do not preach the Bible. Far too many Christians pick and choose the parts of the Bible they want to. About the only thing I can think of that has been eliminated are the rituals of sacrifice. That ended with God sending His own sacrifice to atone for our sins through Jesus Christ.
Jesus came to fulfill the law which states “Remember the Sabbath Day…”
Amen.
