Volume 5-28, Deuteronomy 30

Dear God, prepare us to receive your Word. Clear our hearts and minds of all earthly things, and let us be together, let Your Spirit teach, and let us listen and learn, and put a hedge of protection around us to protect us from Satan’s distractions, because he surely does not like what we are doing. Amen.

I say again…you cannot read the Bible too much; every time I read it I find something new. And today, and I have to think really hard about this, but I may have found one of the most important passages in the Book. Maybe not THE most important, but it is in the top ten.

As I review this, and at any time you read the Bible yourself, it is important to keep these things in mind.

  1. If you want to know the God that made man, you have to forget about the God that man made.
  2. “If you’ve seen Me, you’ve seen the Father”. God is just like Jesus.
  3. Christians are those that follow Christ. Christ was a Jew. And the Torah was written for the Jews (Hebrews), therefore, it was written for us as well.

The Choice of Life or Death

11“For this commandment which I command you today is [c]not too mysterious for you, nor is it far off. 12It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will ascend into heaven for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ 13Nor is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will go over the sea for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ 14But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it.

It is extremely important that we know God’s word. Satan likely knows the Bible better than us, Satan quoted scripture to Jesus in the wilderness to try to tempt him. And if we want to defeat Satan in our lives, we better know the Bible better than him. And as this scripture says, God’s word is here. We don’t have to seek it, it isn’t hidden, it isn’t a secret, and we should know it well enough that it is in our mouth and in our heart.

15“See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil, 16in that I command you today to love the Lord your God…when you look at a package of food and read the ingredient list, the ingredients in order of their amount is listed first. For example, if I buy a can of black olives, I would hope the first thing on the ingredient list is “black olives”. Note the first thing in this scripture is to love God. It doesn’t say fear God, or obey God, it says love God, and if you love God, the rest will follow.

…that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life that both you and your descendants may live…it is OUR choice. God is giving us the opportunity, just like He gave Adam and Eve the opportunity to love and obey Him, or the opportunity He gave to the people to get on the boat, or the opportunity He gave to the people of Sodom and Gomorrah to repent. It was all THEIR choice, and unfortunately, they chose wrong. God is giving us the opportunity to choose LIFE.

; 20that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him…once again, love comes first. And we should CLING to him BEFORE we cling to the television, or the smart phone, or the computer, or a games of sports.

for He is your life…what is the MEANING OF LIFE? It says it right here!

and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.” Do we not worship the God of Abraham? If we do, then Abraham is one of our patriarchs, regardless of Jew or Gentile.

We have the opportunity to choose life, eternal life in Heaven with God and Jesus, or we can choose not to live, to separate ourselves from God, to not “love Him with all our hearts and minds”, and to perish because we have separated ourselves from God.

I pray you make the right choice.

Amen.
