Volume 6-10, Joshua 15-21

These chapters of Joshua continue to review and solidify that areas of the promised land that were divided among the tribes of Israel. And scripture goes deeper to discuss, in detail, the cities within the land that were distributed, and the location of the cities of refuge.

Why do you suppose they took great care in describing geography? What does geography have to do with God’s word or how we are called to live each day (at least that’s what I tried to tell my geography teacher in school). This is just another example of how God is all-knowing.

Today, I hear all kinds of propaganda of what land belongs to Israel. Even some people quote some date in the 20th Century as the official date that “Israel became a state”. Oh, but if we read our Bibles. Oh, but if we believed in God’s word.

This is why these chapters of Jericho, in my opinion, were written. It was a legal contract between God, our King, and the children of Israel. It was a covenant, the entire promise of a land filled with milk and honey. And the geographical areas described in these chapters are what belongs to Israel; not political territories, but rather “God-given” territories.

Now, I’m still not an expert in geography. But I know from studying the Bible and researching information, that the “promised land” has slowly been carved away.

The tribes of Gad, Reuben, and the half-tribe of Manasseh east of the Jordan River now below to Jordan and Syria, and political divisions on the west side of the Jordan have taken it over even more.

“Well, it belonged to the Canaanites before Israel overtook it”. No, everything belongs to God. All land is God’s, and God portioned off this land for His chosen people.

The problem is, many do not believe in the Bible, so these “fairy tale” descriptions of the land are just that, fiction from an old book. They rely on man and politics to decide who the land belongs to.

And even those who do believe in the Bible, but are not Christian or Jewish want to take over the land. God gave the land to the children of Abraham nearly 4000 years ago, and they are still fighting over it to this day.

And I am a right-wing conservative who supports President Trump, but there will be no peace in the Middle East. The Bible makes it clear that the descendants of Isaac and the descendants of Ishmael will forever be at odds. And the recent “Peace Treaty” that was negotiated between Israel and Hamas last maybe two days, three at tops, before Hamas broke the ceasefire and killed to Israeli warriors.

So, the descriptions of the land and cities in these chapters of Joshua are still valid today, if only people recognized the authority of the Bible, are at least believed in the Bible.

So after over 500 years, God’s promise to Abraham was finally fulfilled. However, the story isn’t over. God instructed the children of Israel to force all of the pagans out, but they didn’t. Some started socializing with the pagans, others were defeated and just “gave up the fight”. And that will lead to “wars and rumors of wars” as prophesied by our God.

God bless you in your study of God’s word. Pray for me and I’ll do the same for you.

Amen.
