Psalm 110:
Verse 1 “The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand”” – Hmmm? Say again? The Lord said to my Lord? 1) This is further proof of the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), and further proof of Jesus in the OT. What David is saying is, “God said to Jesus, “Sit at My right hand.””

In the Bible, the Son sits in a throne at the right hand of God. This is either another prophesy told by David, or Jesus was known to David, which his calling Jesus “My Lord” probably means he knew Jesus. And all the past times when David referred to “the Lord”, he was probably referring to Jesus. Jesus is all through the OT…we don’t necessarily see Him until the New Testament, but we know He was there because of the Apostle John in his gospel Chapter 1, Verse 1.
Verse 4 ““You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek.” – Remember, Melchizedek was the King of Salem (Jerusalem) in the days of Abraham…also believed to be a priest and had some connection with Christ.
Verse 5 “He shall execute kings in the day of His wrath. He shall judge among the nations, He shall fill the places with dead bodies,
He shall execute the heads of many countries
.” – The Jews were waiting for the coming of their Messiah. They thought He would coming riding in on a white horse, wearing armor, carrying a sword, and ready to slaughter the Roman’s who oppressed them. From David’s passage here, we don’t know if David was thinking of the coming of the Messiah and that he believed like the Jews, or if he had simply been taught that God was an angry tyrant who was wrathful with sinners, and couldn’t wait to kill them and give them the justice they deserved.

Psalms 131 and 133 are psalms of worship written by David, short but beautiful.

More of David’s psalms tomorrow.
