Verse 1 and 2 “Blessed is the man…But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night.” – Guilty as charged. I know the Commandments. I have them hanging on the wall in my living room. But after the 5th Commandment, I sometimes get them turned around. Is lying the 7th and stealing the 8th, or vice versa? Maybe it’s the 9th? I know “coveting” is the 10th…see. I should “meditate” on these until I know them by heart. I shouldn’t have to ask Alexa which one is which. New goal for me…study the commandments until I know them in my brain and have them stored away in my heart. Forgive me, Father.
Verse 6 “…But the way of the ungodly shall perish.” – Notice that it doesn’t say “the way of the ungodly will burn in hell forever. Just saying…”
Psalm 10:
Verse 1 “Why do You stand afar off, O Lord? Why do You hide in times of trouble?” – Pet peeve of mine. Whenever there is a tragedy or natural disaster resulting in death, the non-believers always taunt, “Where is your God now? Why didn’t He save you?” (Edit: I just typed a long dissertation on this subject, then realized I went on a ramble, so I deleted it). While I have many thoughts on this subject, I’ll just suffice to say that 1) God doesn’t cause bad things to happen, 2) Satan does cause chaos and turmoil, and 3) Satan does it hoping that in times of grief, you’ll turn against God. And when those non-believers make those statements, and when you begin to second guess God, you’ve fallen into Satan’s plan, and you’ve allowed him to win. There is a reason for everything…we may not understand it now, but there is a reason, and sometimes that reason is that Satan just doesn’t like us close to God.
Psalm 33:
Verse 5 “He loves righteousness and justice; The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.” – Gloom and doom. You can’t pick up a newspaper nowadays, but you can read a digital edition on your phone or computer. All is not well. There’s fighting in the Middle East. There’s the threat of nuclear war. There is civil unrest in America. Our country is polarized over politics. Drug addiction is out of control. Domestic violence is at an all time high. You can’t go to sleep at night without locking your doors. All is lost. Or it is? I probably spend too much time on social media…it’s where I keep in somewhat of contact with friends and family, and just like this blog, where I can share my faith. But if we put our blinders on, we can certainly get to the point where we think everything is bad. But it isn’t. “The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.”
Look at the bigger picture. Ignore what the media propaganda wants you to believe. Right now as I sit in my living room typing this, I look outside…the sky is the most beautiful blue that even the most talented artist could not recreate. There are evergreen trees around my property, so even though it’s the dead of winter, they are, well, “ever green”. Our nations flag is draped from the flagpole in front of my house telling me it is a calm day. The neighbors goats are out (You can’t keep a goat locked up. A friend once said, “If you can throw water through a fence, a goat can get out of it.), but I don’t mind, I enjoy watching them graze on my lawn, and headbutt each other, and lay napping in the grass. It’s a beautiful day, a day created by God. And it is good, and God is in control, and His Will will be done. I’m making homemade tomato soup for supper from roasted tomatoes, onions, and garlic, and I’ll serve it with a grilled cheese sandwich on hearty wheat bread; it’s a bit chilly, so the warm soup will go down good. And despite what Satan wants me to read, and believe, and fret about, life it good. Our earth is good because it is filled with the goodness of the Lord.
And no, I’m not a naturally happy person. I often worry, and sometimes let my dander up, but I just have to read this verse and remind myself that all is well because my God is in control.
And all God’s people said “Amen”.
