Psalm 97:
Verse 3 “A fire goes before Him, And burns up His enemies round about.” – I am in no way saying the Bible is incorrect, but I think it is highly misinterpreted. For those that take the Bible, written by man, as the literal truth, do you really think God has fire going before Him? And do you think of yourself as so perfect, you will not be affected by this fire? “His enemies” is a pretty strong statement, I would prefer “those who turn from Him” or “those who disobey Him”. In that light, I’m included. I’m not a perfect Christian, and if the OT is literal, then I am included with the wicked and am an “enemy” of God. Does that mean if that God was to appear to day, fire would come forth from Him and consume me? I don’t think so. I think God is just like Jesus, He is loving and merciful. And if God was this angry tyrant who killed his enemies with fire, why would anyone want to live with Him forever in Heaven? So, when I read this scripture, I prefer (just my opinion) to think of it as the “Glory of God” comes before Him, and those that have turned away from Him (not just your every day sinner, but those who have truly abandoned Him and are worshiping other idols and committing egregious sins), are consumed by His Glory because they have separated themselves so much and so far from Him, that they are not able to withstand it. And I will continue to believe that until the Second Coming and I find out for sure. My biggest problem right now, and one in which I would appreciate your prayers, is that I am worthy enough when that time comes to withstand His Glory. Moses’ face shone, just from being in God’s presence, so I can’t imagine how bright and wonderful that Glory will be!
Psalm 98:
Verse 9 “For He is coming to judge the earth. With righteousness He shall judge the world, And the peoples with equity.” – John the Apostle told me (not personally, but through his writings), that Jesus has been here forever (John 1), but only recently has the thought crossed my mind as to whether or not they new Jesus in the Old Testament days. I have always thought that they only knew God and not Jesus, but recently a psalm of David mentioned two different “Lords”, so maybe they did. When I read this verse, I wonder if they were referring to “God” coming to judge the earth, or if they knew Jesus was coming to judge the earth. And if it is the case of the latter, were they expecting the same Jesus to come and conquer the Romans that the Pharisees were expecting? Or perhaps is this a prophesy of Jesus’ Second Coming? Time will tell. We only know that they, the psalmist, knew that someone was coming to judge the earth and to save them from the wicked. Praise God for saving us!
Psalm 99:
Again, more new thoughts. There is a pastor who made a video, “Finding Jesus throughout the Bible”. It is my interpretation that it was Jesus and two angels that came to Sodom and Gomorrah and stopped and visited Abraham on the way. It was Jesus who appeared before Joshua as the “Commander of God’s Army”. But now that I read this scripture, was it God who was in the pillar of fire that led the children of Israel through the wilderness, or was it Jesus? Or does it really matter? It’s simply just more things to contemplate in order to better get to know God and Jesus. Pray that the truth be exposed.
Psalm 100:
I’ve made my beliefs about an everlasting hell fire where the wicked burn forever, and I recently had a discussion with a Facebook friend who disagreed with me on the subject, which is totally fine. She said she would rather believe in Hell Fire than not, and this verse in Psalm 100 kinds of makes me think. Verse 2 “Serve the Lord with gladness”. How many Christians serve the Lord with gladness and love rather than out of fear from burning forever in hell? I would much rather serve Him out of love for Him, a love He is well due, rather than serve Him because I am afraid of His judgment against me. As it is on earth, it is better for your children to obey you out of love rather than out of fear of punishment. But just like children, we are God’s children, and we are subject to the temptations of Satan, we are subject to the desires of the world, we are self absorbed, and often times we feel the “need” to live a righteous life out of fear of “judgment day” rather than a fear we have separated ourselves from our Father and Creator.
Pray for everyone who has been lied to and mislead by man. Pray for the Jews that listened to the Pharisees and cried for the crucifixion of Jesus rather than Barabbas. And pray for those who claim to be Christian because they are afraid of God rather than love Him. Amen.
