Psalm 107 – and yet another psalm that talks about the “lovingkindness” of the Lord. Despite other scripture that makes God look like an angry tyrant, I believe God is merciful and loving. The other scriptures, I believe, were tainted by the authors emotional state when written, or by their misperception of what they witnessed, or by some other factor I have not yet determined. All I know is that my God, while disappointed with those that stray or sin, loves us unconditionally.
Psalm 111 and 112 – here we g with that word “fear”, “fear the Lord”. A synonym of the word “fear” is “awe”. Yes, we should be in awe of the Lord, of His love, His mercy, His wisdom, His genius, His alknowing, everything about God is wonderful and marvelous, and we should be in awe of that. But should we fear Him? Not for a second. If we fear anything, we should fear Satan and his temptations that draw us away from the Lord.
Psalm 113:
Don’t just read the Bible…study it, and here is the perfect example. This psalm, in the New King James Versions, is titled “The Majesty and Condescension of God”. When I read the word “condescension”, I just didn’t think that fit the character of my God, so I thought maybe I wasn’t sure of the definition, so I asked my assistant Alexa for the definition, and I was right. The word meant “someone who talks down to another or makes another feel inferior”. So I got out Merriam-Webster who gave me a second definition of “voluntary descent from one’s rank or dignity in relations with an inferior”. That, sounds much better; a God that is humble enough to not make you feel inferior.
Psalm 114 sounds as if it were written after the exodus from Egypt, but no worries, it’s good to read it again and to remind ourselves of the awesome power of our God and what He did not only for the Hebrews, but for the Gentiles as well.
