Psalms 132 and 134 are songs of ascents, like others in this section of the Bible. Apparently the term was derived from fact that Jerusalem sits on a high hill, and the children of Israel would sing these songs as they ascended the hill to Jerusalem for one of the three annual Jewish Festivals.
While many of these psalms were written by unknown authors and the event surrounding their writing is unknown, Psalm 137 talks about being “carried away to Babylon”. As we will read in the future, there was a time when the children of Israel (the majority anyway) had drifted from God and He removed His hedge of protection from them, allowing armies from the city of Babylon to invade Israel and take the inhabitants into captivity. Since this psalm mentions that, it is possible that this psalm was written during this time period, in my opinion.
