Happy Sabbath!

I wish I could review each and every proverb, but there simply isn’t time for that. So as usual, we’ll hit the high notes that God moves me to discuss.

One of the hardest things in life is for a child to obey their parents. Once they start to comprehend things, they are in their “terrible twos” where they start to test the water. Then there is a good spell until they hit their teens when they really start to rebel. My wife used to say that was nature’s way of preparing them for adulthood…by the time they graduated High School, they couldn’t wait to get away from their parents, and their parents were anxious for them to leave! But Solomon says you should listen to your parents…they are older, and have natural wisdom from their experiences, the experiences a child is going through are the same experience the parent has gone through. I don’t believe I was rebellious too much, most of my problem was being mischievious and, because I lacked wisdom, I did stupid things.

Starting with Verse 10, this reminds me so much of the police DARE Program, “Drug Abuse Resistance Education”. While I’ve never been through the program nor have I ever been associated with it, my connection with law enforcement tells me it isn’t just about “education”, resistance to peer pressure is also included; apparent by their campaign, “Just Say No to Drugs”. Throughout life, Satan will tempt you to sin, either through your lack of conscience or from family, friends, and acquaintances. And this proverb tells you about the same; if you’re tempted to sin, “Just Say No.”

Verse 11, in my opinion, is highly prophetic; “Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me. 29Because they hated knowledge
And did not choose the fear of the Lord”. I say this because, as we will find out when we get into the Gospels, Jesus himself (and I’m paraphrasing because I don’t have my scriptures memorized) says, “Many will call Lord, Lord, and I will say, ‘I do not know you’”. Seek Jesus now. Obey His commands. If you don’t start a personal relationship with Him right now, and wait until the end times to realize you were wrong, He will not acknowledge you. In the last days, the wicked will realize that following Satan and scoffing at God was a grave errors, and they will bow down and beg for forgiveness. By then though, it will be too late. Once “probation” closes, no one will be allowed in. First, Christ takes the righteous to Heaven for a thousand years, leaving the wicked behind. Then the “New Jerusalem” descends from Heaven with God at the throne and all of the righteous who have experienced Heaven for the last thousand years, in order for God to establish the “new Earth”, where he literally burns the earth and starts anew. It is at that time when the wicked will call upon Him, but God cannot take a chance on allowing sin into the New World. Repent now! The end is near! And Solomon is saying these things because “it is wise to love and obey your Heavenly Father, the same as it is for a wise child to obey their earthly father.

Enjoy the rest of your Sabbath! (And you don’t have to stop there, there is a lot of scripture to contemplate. Each day, I ask for some peace and quiet in my home so I have time to study uninterrupted, and one of the special needs adults that lives with me always say, “Are you done with your Bible Study for the day?”, and I always answer, “Yes, but I’m never done, and I might choose to study some more later.”) Don’t look at Bible Study as a chore or a task that you have to do and mark off your calendar. Studying the Bible gives you wisdom (the topic of todays study), and you can never be too wise. And all of God’s people said, “Amen!”
