The Meaning Of Life

Volume 11-32, Ecclesiastes 7-8

Once again, there are valuable lessons in these two chapters of the Book of Ecclesiastes, but not enough time to discuss each and every aspect. But I want to bring to light a very valuable lesson in Chapter 8 and how it certainly applies today.

Our nation, over the last couple of decades, had divided and become politically polarized. I will avoid describing the two sides, one known as the right, who are conservative, and the other is the left, who are more liberal, lest you will know which side I lean to. But, regardless of side, it is difficult not to get involved. The government, along with the powers that be, use propaganda to provoke and stir up each side. I’ve always equated it to a “divided and conquer” tactic, but then again I’m more of a conspiracy theorist.

And everyone gets overly worked up. Harsh and hateful disagreements break out on social media. Political strife has been so bad that it has led to at least one assassination of a public figure. And half always say “the end is near”, meaning our lives will be destroyed by whomever runs the show.

I remember when Obama was elected president, I had some dark skinned friends text me saying to “look out”, it was time for the white man to become slaves. Then just the other day, I saw a reel on social media of a dark skinned man who was certain the right was setting the stage to bring slavery back. And we can get worked up over it, trust me, I fall to easily into the trap, and I have to avoid social media to keep my life in order.

But, it is important that you realize it doesn’t matter who is elected to office. It doesn’t matter if the right controls Congress or if the left does. Agenda doesn’t matter, providing they are not killing Christians like they are in some foreign countries that have started a theocracy instead of a democracy, don’t sweat the politics. Why?

Because God is in charge. God is in charge of everything and His Will will be done. Yes, things may look bleak at times, but trust in God, it fits in with His plan somewhere. Just like the blind man that Jesus healed; the man was born blind specifically so Jesus could heal him and show everyone the power of God. So when we have something bad happen in our lives, it may be because we have distanced ourself from God, or it may be simply a part of God’s plan.

And think how much our nation would heal if more of us turned back to God, to serving God and the purpose He created us for. Instead of chasing wealth, or power, or social status, if we chased God, what a wonderful life it would be.

Solomon says to keep the king’s commandment for the sake of your oath to God. And that is another way, in my interpretation, to say, God is in charge. Don’t fear. Have faith. Trust God.

Amen.
