Father, we pray that you open our hearts and minds to instructions, we ask that you send Your Holy Spirit into us to teach us the Truth. Amen.

Proverbs 4 talks everything about wisdom, how life will be good to you if you possess it and what life will be like if you ignore it. And in these first chapters, Solomon is giving a prelude to his individual proverbs, because if you first do not know the importance of wisdom, you are less likely to pay attention to his wise words.

Exodus 20:14, “You shall not commit adultery.” There are many ceremonial laws and laws pertaining to a healthy lifestyle. But the Ten Commandments, in my opinion, are of the utmost importance. These laws were written by the finger of God, they weren’t just passed down to Moses verbally from God, He actually inscribed the Commandments with His own finger, and those tablets of stone were placed in the Ark of the Covenant for safe keeping.

“You shall not commit adultery”. Apparently the act of adultery is high on God’s list as it was included in His Ten Commandments; He literally wrote “You Shall Not Commit Adultery” with His own hand!

And Proverbs 5 talks about adultery, and in particular, the wisdom around avoiding it. Our entertainment industry is based on beauty. While I don’t watch television, one of the wards that lives with me does, and I often glance at the TV and think, “Why are there no ugly people on TV?” I certainly don’t mean to be insulting, but the majority of actors are all good looking, intentional, to try to intice you to watch their programming. And I say that loosely, if you seen most of these actors without makeup, well, let’s just say there are just like the rest of us. Heavily made up to be attractive, wearing provocative clothing designed to entice your eyes to watch their programming. The stars attending awards ceremonies are half-naked, as my wife would say, they suffer from the “Look at me!” syndrome.

And what do men think of when they see an artificially beautiful women half naked. Yep, your thoughts are lustful. Now we know having a relationship with a movie star is highly improbably, but the problem is that the industry has brain washed the general public to think they have to look like that as well. Young girls suffer from eating disorders because they think they have to be slender to be attractive. And I’ve said this before and had rocks thrown at me, but I see fliers for missing children and runaways, and these young girls are all wearing makeup and could pass for a 25 year old. It’s no wonder they are often preyed upon.

What Proverbs 5 is telling you, is to stay away from this. Stop watching those television programs and movies that entice you to lust after other women. Whether you are married or not, having sexual relations outside of wedlock is considered adultery. And I’m not preaching here, I have been guilty of adultery several times over prior to marriage. Thankfully I remained faithful to my wife after we were married, but let’s just say I wasn’t a virgin when I got married. And as the proverb is telling you, stay away from those enticing women and men. Adultery is a two way street…all too often adultery is stereogypically thought of as a cheating husband, but the wife can cheat as well.

And I love Verse 15! “Drink water from your own well”. That means get your satisfaction at home and not somewhere else. And Solomon knows about adultery; he had a deceased older brother that was the product of an adulterous affair of his father, David.

And here is something few people talk about; we’re not there yet, but Jesus said that if you’ve think about adultery (or any other sin), you may just as well have committed it. I believe the exact scripture was referring to murder, “If you are unjustly angry with your brother and think of killing him, you have committed murder in your heart”, or something to that effect. The same applies to adultery; you may not actually perform the act of adultery, but even if you think about it, you’re guilty of it.

Wise words. Words to live by.

But one more thing and I’ll stop rambling, it is natural for a man to be attracted to a woman. I had a pastor acknowledge that…but, the wisdom is knowing that you’re heading down that path and to turn around immediately. If you see (and here again, I’m stereotyping that it is a man who is committing the act), if you see a beautiful woman in a short skirt and your thoughts start to go there, stop! Turn your thoughts around and think about something else, like Jesus. Even if you have to stop and say a short prayer to get your mind off of it, resist the temptation! Then he followed by addressing the women…dress modestly so you’re not tempting men to sin.

As I started, the entertainment industry has fallen to the temptation of Satan. Satan is creating this culture to tempt you to sin. And it just isn’t adultery, he has many tools in his tool kit to draw you away from God; heavy traffic to tempt you to have road rage, beautiful women to tempt you to commit adultery, political and social divide to make you hate the other side, and as I’ve said, he’s even infiltrated the church. If we are all Christians who follow Christ, and the words of Christ are pretty clear, why do we have 14,000 different denominations? Because Satan has caused us to interpret God’s word in ways that cause disagreement and strife.

So, when you are tempted to commit adultery, don’t let Satan win. Amen? Amen!
